Wenger is found under even more pressure to step down from his boss position at Arsenal, after the crushing 5-1 loss to Bayern Munich from Wednesday night.
Stan Kroenke, largest shareholder of Arsenal, wants to see Thierry Henry return in a new management position. Thierry has made a huge impact as Belgium’s assistant manager. Meanwhile, Alisher Usmanov wants to bring in Diego Simeone from Atletico Madrid. Kroenke and his son Josh both believe that Diego Simeone would be a large risk due to his fiery temper.
Their short list includes Thomas Tuchel (from Borussia Drotmund), Leonardo Jardim (Monaco),Max Allegri (Juventus) and Henry – who is allegedly going to bring Roberto Martinez with him.
However, Wenger said that he would see his final years in a coaching position, and wants to remain in the game for at least another four years. “My preference is always to manage Arsenal, and I have shown that. I am adult enough to analyse the situation”, he stated.
Speculations about possible destinations for Wenger include Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain. He has yet to make a final decision about the future until April, but he is convinced it will take some more time until he finally walks away from frontline management.
As Arsenal’s record goalscorer (at 175 goals since 18 Sep 1999), Thierry Henry has impressed even Martinez’s assistant for the Belgium national team.
Henry is said to have already been sounded out about a sensational comeback.
Wenger has said his final decision is set to come in March or April, and a clean break from the club rather than a move upstairs would apparently help secure Henry’s return.
Despite two offers to work with either the Under-18s or first-team strikers for free alongside his media position, Arsene Wenger rejected Henry.
The 39-year-old is now on Arsenal’s managerial short-list, and could even apparently bring ex-Everton boss Martinez with him.
